Ed James
|
|
From the very beginnings, it looked like things were going to rock for Ed James, as little kid growing up in central Texas, the early beginnings of the entertainment field seemed to be part of his DNA. His conservative upbringing did not permit the viewing of "Dick Clark's American Bandstand" during the years of the black and white television broadcast. His mom would turn the brightness down to dark so he couldn't see the couples dancing together. Yet he managed to bounce up and down in his diaper on the beat, with a very big grin. . .Thats' where the dreams began to come true. He has been following his dreams ever since. Recently, Dick Clark personally wrote and sent Ed his long awaited autographed picture during the holidays following the broadcast of Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve 2007!
Ed graduated from OC University with a degree specialty in Public Relations and Advertising. Ed built the foundations of his skills working with Puppeteers of America. During that 10 year period he created over 500 puppets and built and designed numerous shows for shopping malls and Six Flags Over Texas. He also worked as professional instructor, to youth and adults at workshops and conventions in the field of puppetry.
After moving to Nashville, Ed began ARK 2 in the Fall 1984 when asked to volunteer and design set decorations for a benefit concert and fundraising event for Young Life. Artists participating in that concert were, Russ Taff, Kathy Troccoli and Michael W. Smith. That night, several artist managers noticed the work and approached Ed with new projects. He gladly gave up his pizza delivery job near Vanderbilt University.
ARK 2 really began to take off in 1985 when Ed designed the set decoration for Amy Grant’s Unguarded Tour presented by A&M Records. As a result of the success of that project, new doors of creative opportunity began to open. Since that project, nearly 25 years ago, ARK 2 design has been seen around the world and enjoyed by millions of people. Over 2500 projects for individuals, artists, entertainment and business brands have used ARK 2 Studio and ARK 2 Productions for creative elements. ARK 2 now specializes in event design with the inclusion of Digital print media, banners, backdrops, soft goods and visual design which now includes talent, look and execution seamless consistency on all levels.
ARK 2 wouldn't even be here now if it weren't for the incredible gifts and talents of Mark Neubauer, Matt Davidson and Dawn Davidson. They along with Ed James have been blessed to work on some of the most unique and creative projects together through the years. There is fresh energy that is created when they work together. It makes for the perfect finished project for the client. Please read their bios below.
Currently, Ed James is learning to give back to the community and to the world by directing The Light The World Parade project. A philanthropic and altruistic approach to the arts and performance. The Light The World Parade has performed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, the site of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and is currently preparing for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in China. The all volunteer cast of high school seniors, college and young adults will be performing high stepping, dance, stunts and performance art to the some of the most popular music of the recent past. Featuring digital banners, flags, puppetry, giant helium balloons, special fx and surround sound. The completely portable parade and concept is designed to be used over and over again with scheduled giving and philanthropic activity as a key component of its concept. The Light The World Parade is created as catalyst for change to give people an opportunity to benefit from the sacrifice of giving of themselves to make a better World.

Matt Davidson
|

Matt Davidson, Concept Director for ARK 2, also started his creative career early. While other boys busied themselves with footballs and action figures, Matt was happily building spaceships from cardboard boxes and drawing medieval knights. At age six he took his first trip to Walt Disney World, and inspiration took flight (along with obsessions with pirates, submarines, and retro sci-fi).
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental design with a minor in illustration from the University of North Carolina, Matt decided to return to where it all began, and relocated to Orlando, Florida, where God led him to a position in Disney’s Creative Entertainment department where he worked in concept illustration. It was here that Matt, studiously working on costume concepts for Disney-MGM Paris in 1990, found himself in the same room where Ed James was involved in an interview with Disney. It didn’t take long for them to discover that their great minds thought alike, and they have been friends ever since.
Matt is still employed by Walt Disney World as a costume designer. In addition to countless operational and character costumes, his work has been showcased in such attractions as Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Dream Along with Mickey castle show, and the Pirates and Princesses party at the Magic Kingdom.
Matt’s drawing skills and limitless imagination have served through hundreds of projects to make ARK 2 a truly cutting edge design group. Able to swiftly visualize a concept, he can also come up with surprises that delight viewers time and again. His confident, bold visual style adds drama and life to every piece of art while detailing technical information with accuracy, and he brings fresh insight to all concepts. His talents add a unique and invaluable element to ARK 2.

Dawn Davidson
|
|
Dawn Davidson, ARK 2 conceptual illustrator, became involved in ARK 2 vicariously. Fresh from graduation from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, she had relocated to Walt Disney World in 1999 to pursue a dream of becoming an animator one that would never be realized, due to the subsequent closing of Disney’s Feature Animation studios. It seemed God had other reasons for bringing her to Florida.
One of those reasons was apparently to find her soulmate in Matt Davidson the two met in Matt’s office, where she had been invited for a networking opportunity and had brought her portfolio to show. Immediately impressed by Dawn’s work and more so with her, Matt invited her into his circle of friends, and a new partnership was born. The couple married in 2002, and Dawn left Disney shortly afterwards to freelance, picking up commissions for portraits, murals, illustrations, prints of her original fantasy art, and, naturally, conceptual design and illustration for ARK 2.
As part of the Davidson team, Dawn brings her loves of life drawing and children’s illustration to ARK 2’s conceptual design. Her knowledge of human anatomy and interest in animation brings life and motion to depictions of dance and acrobatic numbers, while her favored palette of brilliant colors adds a whimsical and vivid charm to her work. She and Matt typically work together on ARK 2 concepts, often with such overlap that even they cannot say which of them completed certain parts of a piece of artwork. Dawn is happy to be a member of ARK 2 and loves the opportunity to use her gifts in a way that glorifies the Giver.

Mark Neubauer
|
|
Mark is not your typical Graphic Designer. While most designers "pigeon hole" themselves, preferring to "specialize" in one area of design, Mark has chosen to explore design from every possible angle.
"I find working on a variety of projects all the time is essential to keeping your creativity and preventing burnout. Every project is an opportunity to explore. " says Mark. After graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design, Mark has had over 18 years experience as a designer. "I wanted to be involved with graphic communication since I was about 12 years old. I had a teacher in 7th grade who introduced me to the Communication Arts industry and he said, "The ones who have the real power in our society are the graphic designers. They have the ability to influence tens of thousands of people every day." I think maybe my natural ability in art and my desire to teach is what made graphic design so attractive to me."
If there is one niche that seems to define Mark's work and keeps his clients returning it is his ablitiy to develop graphic images that communicate esoteric and obscure ideas. "I think in pictures" says Mark. "So it is just natural for me to come up with graphic elements that help people express what they are trying to say with words."
